reflected

This week in art we created out on drawings with our own still life set ups. In my drawing this we i wanted to improve on my realism. We made these drawings with he medium of oil pastel. The shadows were made with a variety of oil pastel colors, mainly including dark blues and oranges, but not blacks. My most difficult challenge was creating good shadows without using any browns, blacks or grays. I believe I overcame this challenge. I think my drawing really works because the way the reflection looks appears realistic. Kaelyn Jame's artwork helped me because she creates such great shadows and highlights in her art with a variety of different colors.

kiggy.

Coconut sat on the floor, practically modeling and waiting for her picture to be taken. This was my first time meeting Coconut, my friends cat, and she was as sweet as can be. Although she was a little feisty at times, the way her fur reflected the light was a perfect photo opportunity.

takeout

I created a drawing of chinese takeout box with chopstick creating a path to the with the medium of charcoal. I wanted to highlight the highlights of the chopsticks and takeout box in this. I was surprised by how much easier it was to draw the takeout box after drawing the pumpkin previously. I did not have a hard time drawing this takeout box but i could have made the shadows darker, looking back now. I believe my drawing really works because of the size, shape, and placement of the chopsticks in the artwork. Lauren's art inspired me because her photo was very in depth and the picture drew me in. If i had a do-over, I would probably make the the shadows darker, but unfortunately i missed a lot of prime class time due to the school production.

pumpkinz

This week I created this drawing of 2 pumpkins with charcoal. I wanted to really highlight the shadows of the given pumpkin this week. I was surprised by the  amount of time it takes to make the shadows and highlights of the pumpkin perfect. The most difficult part of drawing this pumpkin was making the shadows bright, but also blended, because that is my personal preference. I believe my drawing really works because of the size, shape, and placement of the pumpkin. I also enjoy how realistic my pumpkin looks. I will definitely use the skill of very dark blacks and bright highlights in drawings to come. Kaelyn's art inspired me because her shadows were very dark and she blended them well with her highlights. If i had a do-over, I would probably make the pumpkin just a little bit bigger, but I am pleased with my product.

zen.

In my drawing of the word zen i wanted to work on my shadows. I do not think this picture does my artwork very well. I believe the light in the picture i took, did not reflect off the art well. The shadows were made with a variety of graphite pencils: including 2H,HB,2B,4B,6B, and 8B. My most difficult challenge was creating good shadows. Instead of fighting the given challenges, I moved the words around my page to give the shadows room. I think my painting really works where I overlap the shadows on the words. Lauren Wright's artwork helped me because she creates such great shadows in her art. I am proud of this work and if I had more time i would work harder to smooth out the shading.
